Branding is one of the most important aspects of any business, large or small. An effective brand strategy gives you an edge in competitive or flooded markets by connecting with your audience emotively i.e.  by showing your brand shares the same values and beliefs with your customer. Branding is a way of defining your business to yourself and the world.

What exactly does "branding" mean?

Simply put, your brand is your promise to your customer. It tells them what they can expect from your products and services, and it differentiates your offering from your competitors'.

Why should you brand your business?
strategically defining your brand means you connect with your customer emotively. When you show your consumer that your brand shares the same values as them, it leads to higher sales though brand differentiation. This leads to loyalty from your customers and may protect your business when you competitors use promotional discounts to drive sales.

It is important to remember; A brand is not a logo with a matching graphic design neither is it the product.
A brand experience someone has with your company/product. It is the personality of the company. It is how the company makes a person feel.

Does Fresh Cut Flower Auctions Really Help? Eagle-Link Flowers

Flower Auction

auction in progress

A Flower Auction is an international trading platform for plants and flowers where growers bring their produce and sell to the highest bidder. The alternative is buying fresh flowers direct from the growers
Some examples are: Aalsmeer Flower Auction  in Holland, Multiflora  in south Africa,  Flowerbuyer  online auction in the USA, Christensen's flower auction in Australia,  FloraMax   specialist flower auction New Zealand, United Flower Growers Co-operative Association In western Canada etc

How To Buy in an auction - Buying On The Clock

The price on the clock is set by the auctioneer on a high price which rotates lower. The buyer who presses his button first, stops the clock on the price he intends to pay and communicates with the auctioneer on the quantity of containers he wishes to purchase.
Most auctions are set up as a Dutch auction system
A Dutch auction is a type of auction in which the auctioneer begins with a high asking price which is lowered until some participant is willing to accept the auctioneer's price, or a predetermined reserve price (the seller's minimum acceptable price) is reached. The winning participant pays the last announced price. This is also known as a clock auction or an open-outcry descending-price auction.

Benefits

Many products in one place
Quality inspection
Free access to statistical data, such as product availability and prices so you can better plan your intake or farming

Drawbacks

Capital intense, you have to make an initial deposit and be buying from it
Unstable price which start with high price in the clock

To the grower
All consigned products are auctioned a minimum of three times. If your products are not sold after the third auction, one or more of the followings may happens:
1.    The auctioneer may try to sell them off after the auction for the best price possible
2.    You may have them returned to you at your own expense
3.    You may have them destroyed

Examples of Auctions

Multiflora

Multiflora is located just south of Johannesburg. This 50 000 sq m, roofed, specialised flower auction space sees some 300 million flower stems a year
It has 600 flower growers on its books, Multiflora is the largest flower auction house in Africa with a staff of 144 people
At least 80% of the flowers on auction at Multiflora are grown within 300km of Johannesburg. The rest come from the Cape, Natal and the northern regions of the country, as well as from as far afield as Kenya, Zimbabwe and other African countries.

Aalsmeer Flower Auction (Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer)
Located in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands.
It is the largest flower auction in the world. The auction building of the flower auction in Aalsmeer is the largest building by footprint in the world, covering 990,000 m² (10.6 million sq ft; 243 acres).[1] Flowers from all over the world (Europe, Ecuador, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya, etc.) are traded on a daily basis at the Aalsmeer facilities. Around 20 million flowers are sold daily with a 15% increase around special days such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. Their flowers are subjected to around 30 checks so that they can be graded on a scale (A1, A2 and B).
On January 1, 2008 the auction merged with their biggest competitor FloraHolland.

FlowerBuyer.com
Launching the first North American online auction-based flower-buying site, Flowerbuyer became operational in 1997 with this new innovative approach. Now, Flowerbuyer has several thousand customers, an impeccable reputation and over 400 flower growers to choose from in over 5 countries.
North America's #1 online flower auction
Online auctions are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
In 2013, Flowerbuyer was acquired by Teleflora. Teleflora is a member of the privately-held Roll Global family of brands and is a leading floral service provider with the largest network of member florists.

Cut Flower Exhibitions - INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIRS 2014

Cut Flower Exhibitions - 2014
The Benefits of Attending a Trade Show
One of the methods we use to get in front of our customers and have some one-on-one time is attending trade shows. For Eagle-Link Flowers, as exhibitors, trade shows are extremely valuable, but these events are equally as valuable for you, the attendees.

Exhibitions are open to a large and sometimes diverse range of audiences (usually the general public). This provides you with a perfect platform to promote your product or service to a broader group that may have little or no knowledge of your products and services.

Trade shows are generally targeted at an industry and people involved or interested in that industry. Exhibiting at a trade show can be a great way to advertise to a target market and create brand awareness.
Deciding to attend
You might find attending trade shows is worthwhile if you have:
  • enough funds to cover attendance, display and other associated costs
  • worked out how many prospects and clients you'll need to obtain to generate a return on your investment
  • visited a trade show at which you're contemplating exhibiting and you're confident that a suitable number of contacts attend
  • worked out a way to capture people's attention
  • sufficient product literature.

Choosing the wrong trade show to exhibit your business's products or services can result in displaying to the wrong audience. Poor promotion can mean the costs of attending the trade show outweigh any revenue you gain.

competition on trade fair

Trade shows present an environment in which vendors compete for your business. As you walk around, you can immediately compare numerous companies’ products, prices, and services. These are also good places for you to discover new companies. Often, customers attend shows with very little knowledge of who sells the type of products they are looking for. By attending a trade show, they can figure out which companies sell what they are looking for, and which solution is the best for them, all in just one day.

networking

When it comes to networking, there’s still no substitute for face to face meetings.

Here are my tips to get the most out of networking:
  1.  Get people to talk about themselves first so you know how to frame what you say about your business to suit them.
  2. Always have business cards and lots of them.
  3. Follow up with personalised emails where appropriate but do not spam.
  4.  Use case studies and refer to real customers. Give context to your work. It makes it much more memorable.
  5.

One of the main benefits of attending a trade show is consolidating that purchasing process down from a timeline of weeks to a single day

As part of Eagle-Link Flowers' marketing strategy; Cut Flower Exhibitions are an avenue to increase productivity or boost efficiency; find solutions to our challenges; reduce costs; seek inspiration or new ideas; develop international contacts; improve industry knowledge and discover the latest innovations/trends; meet experts or improve sales
